Introduction #
WordPress is an open-source web development platform used to create websites and blogs. The General Settings section of WordPress allows you to modify the basic elements of the site such as the site title, language, time zone, and more.
Getting Started #
To access the General Settings page, log into your WordPress admin area. Then, click on “Settings” and select “General”. You’ll now see the General Settings page.
Settings Overview #
- Site Title and Description: Here, you’ll set the title of your site and enter a brief description in the corresponding field. These will be displayed on the front page of your website and in search engine results.
- WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL): In this section, enter the URLs for both the WordPress site and the actual website (this will generally be the same, but can be different).

- Timezone: Here, you can select for which time zone your site content is geared.
- Date Format and Time Format: These settings modify the string format in which the date/time will be formatted.
- Language: Select the language your site should be displayed in.
- Site Visibility: Here, you can choose to turn off the site and have it visible only to registered users, or keep it open for the general public to view.
Saving your Changes #
Once you’ve selected all of your desired settings for the General Settings page, click on the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the page to apply your changes and save your settings.
